U11 Burrin Celtic 0 - 9 Vale Wanderers

U11 Soccer Match Report

  Vale Wanderers 9 - Burrin Celtic 0

In a horrible day for the visitors, Vales physical dominance was contained for the first 15 minutes with Lochlann McGagh and Aaron Bolger containing anything that their hosts should throw at them. However, once the aerial bombardment resulted in the first goal, Celtic didn't stand a chance with the midfield over-run and the outside shooting relentless.

For the aforementioned first fifteen minutes, there was no indication of the tsunami to come with Celtic competing in the midfield with the Murphy's Padraig and Donnacha leaving off from last weeks performance and generating chances for Declan Lester coming close off of an Eoin Hosey cross.

But once it rained, it poured and Celtic just could not stop the shooting. With Aaron Goodwin working well at left-back for much of the first Half, Vale looked to the right with all of Burrin's right-backs hassled all day. All that pressure resulted in crosses from Vales left to result in 3 goals.

Half-time 3-0.

The second half played out the same except that, exhausted from the first-half siege, Burrin couldn't withstand the onslaught. The shooting, while not impeccable from Vale, was frequent to the point of predictable but, unable to close down the shots they just rained in.

6 more goals went in before the final whistle with Eoin Smithers in the Burrin goal helpless for most as the ground-to-air missiles found their marks for Vale and, in truth, the score would have hit double digits had it not been for the Celtic No1. A rare raid into the opposition half saw Eoin Hosey coming close at the far end for Burrin.

Not representative of their efforts, especially at the back with Aaron Morahan, Tomás Aughney and Jaime Procter all in their turn getting stuck in. Also, Dara Curran, John Kinsella and Seamus Connolly played their part but, unfortunately like all their colleagues, it was in a losing effort with the Burrin threat snuffed out at will.

On a day where Burrin stuck together and gave everything, the whole squad kept it together in difficult circumstances.

U11 Burrin Celtic 2 - 1 Parkville

U11 Soccer Match Report

  Parkville 1 - Burrin Celtic 2

An epic defensive display coupled with fantastic set-piece delivery saw a newly resolved Burrin Celtic U11 squad come out of this forge with their steel strengthened and their pride reinstated. Having suffered their worst defeat of the season at the hands of today's guests in Hawkins Lane back in November, wrongs were put right and discipline was kept to make sure that Burrin Celtic went home today with the three points to maintain the pursuit for fourth and, more importantly, with an eye on the Cup competition to be held later in

    the year.

In a team performance the foundation was laid by twins Padraig and Donnacha Murphy locking down the middle of the field with only the breeze and blue sky seeping through the Burrin midfield. Needed support from Dara Curran at centre-back, in easily his best performance in recent times, came in abundance as the first phase possession was met in spades. Lochlann McGagh's snuffing out of the Parkville striker coupled with mop-up work from the fullbacks Aaron
Goodwin and Tomás Aughney gave a very stable look to the Burrin backline.

Wingers Cormac Kinsella and Declan Lester proved a thorn in the Parkville back-lines side all day as no cause was lost enough for the Burrin wingers.

All this work and effort got Burrin a two goal lead going into the break with an own goal and a goal from close-range from Padraig Murphy giving the hosts a deserved 2-0 scoreline at half-time.

The second half was similar in content but Parkville's larger bench and Burrin's efforts eventually caught up with the home side and, off a deflection off of the referee, Parkville pounced with Eoin Smithers left with no chance in the goal in an otherwise solid game for the Burrin No. 1.

Despite the huff and the puff from Parkville and a few chances and near misses for the visitors, Burrin held out for a crucial win at an important time of the season.

In an extraordinary team performance, all rose their hands and all deserve credit:

Tomás Aughney, Dara Curran, Aaron Goodwin, Cormac Kinsella, Declan Lester, Lochlann McGagh, Donnacha Murphy, Padraig Murphy, Jaime
Proctor and Eoin Smithers.
